When it comes to box office supremacy, a few names instantly come to mind—Shah Rukh Khan, Allu Arjun, Vicky Kaushal. But surpassing them all in one unique feat is Prabhas, the only Indian actor to headline two pan-India films that have each crossed the ₹1,000 crore mark globally.
While other actors have seen massive commercial success, none have matched Prabhas's record across multilingual, multi-regional releases. With Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas has redefined what it means to be a pan-India star.
The ₹1,000 Crore Club: Why Prabhas Stands Alone
Baahubali 2, released in 2017, marked a turning point in Indian cinema. Directed by S.S. Rajamouli, the epic saga was a visual and storytelling triumph. Prabhas’s dual role as Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali resonated across audiences, helping the film earn a staggering ₹1,788 crore worldwide, including over ₹1,030 crore in India.
Fast forward to 2024, and Prabhas repeated history with Kalki 2898 AD. A sci-fi epic inspired by the Mahabharata and directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki brought together an ensemble cast including Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The film earned ₹1,042.25 crore globally and ₹646.31 crore domestically, according to Sacnilk.
Shah Rukh Khan, Allu Arjun, Vicky Kaushal: Close, But Not Quite
While Shah Rukh Khan delivered two major hits in 2023—Pathaan and Jawan—both crossing ₹1,000 crore worldwide, they are not considered true pan-India releases. These films were primarily made in Hindi and dubbed into other languages, unlike Prabhas’s multilingual ventures which were simultaneously shot and marketed across India.
Allu Arjun's Pushpa: The Rise made waves during a relatively quiet period for the box office, grossing around ₹350 crore globally. Its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, did enter the ₹1,000 crore club but remains the actor’s only film to do so.
Vicky Kaushal has also seen success with hits like Uri and Sanju. However, his recent release Chaava, despite solid numbers, fell short at ₹807.88 crore.
One Year of Kalki 2898 AD and What’s Next for Prabhas
As Kalki 2898 AD completes one year since its release, anticipation is already building for its sequel. The film ended with a clear teaser: "To be continued…", signaling the launch of a larger cinematic universe.
Prabhas isn't slowing down. He will next be seen in:
- The Raaja Saab: A romantic horror-comedy directed by Maruthi, where Prabhas plays a triple role alongside Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Sanjay Dutt.
- Fauji: A military drama directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.
- Spirit: Originally set to reunite him with Deepika Padukone, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga film will now feature Triptii Dimri.
- Brahmarakshas: A mythological action film by Prasanth Varma.
With a growing list of ambitious projects and a fan base that stretches across the country, Prabhas remains the benchmark for pan-India success.
